Bradford received 27 votes to 17, followed by McCoy and Tebow with 16.
Josh Heupel, the current quarterbacks coach and former player from Oklahoma who won the same award in 2000, said that Bradford won the award for the efforts he made, even during the offseason. He also explained that Bradford has grown a lot through this process three years and he has character to have a successful leadership role in the team as a quarterback, their teammates really believe in him and c ' is what makes the difference.
The next goal for the team fights to control the national championship against the University of Florida in Miami. They are a very competitive team and have the same record as Oklahoma for the season, 12-1.
"Playing in the national championship is something we talked about every three years I am here, and we still have to do," said Bradford. "So to have that chance ... It's really exciting. Me and my teammates are really ready to go."
His teammates are very proud of him and think he deserved the prize, especially because it is a good guy who still has his feet on the ground. They also believe that the price he has received are for the team and because the effort comes together.
Bradford made a great effort as well this season. He was injured during a game against Oklahoma State where he tore his ligaments in his left thumb on Nov. 29, but despite that, he played on the game against Missouri for the Big 12 title over the December 6, even if it was going to have surgery the next day.
This was one of the best seasons for the team to Oklahoma, they scored 702 points in total, beating the record set in 2006 Hawaii 656. They are also the first college team in 89 years to score 60 points in five consecutive games.
Bradford began his career with the Oklahoma Sooners in 2006, when he was fighting for the starting position after Rhett Bomar quarter was driven from the NCAA for violating rules. He won the starting position for the 2007 season where he showed he truly deserved the position since he had a very good season and the team won the Big 12 Conference but lost the Fiesta Bowl against West Virginia on January 2nd.
This season, Bradford passed for 4,464 yards and 48 hit, breaking the record that Jason White, established in 2003 for school. It is also the first country in passing efficiency and has thrown only six interceptions.
