.... Thank you for your help Janet Evanovich has a series about a female bounty hunter named Stephanie Plum. The first book is called One for the Money.
I am not a fan, but you said the bounty hunters in the question and this series came instantly to mind. Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series. Plum is a bounty hunter who gets into trouble, in addition to its head situations. http://www.evanovich.net
Sue Grafton Kinsey Milhone series. Milhone is a female detective. http://www.suegrafton.com/
Marcia Muller Sharon McCone series. http://www.marciamuller.com/
Hope this helps. Have you tried Wen Spencer - I heard that his books are very good Tinker.
Personally, I love Lois McMaster Bujold. The omnibus Honor Astrocartography Cordelia is on a landing on the new planet and is captured - and then escapes, then. . . Oh, it's great! She kicked, but it is totally a woman, too, and it accepts both parts of herself. LMB really rocks! You'll probably like her Vorkosigan series, too. The protag is a guy, but there are many strong female characters throughout the series.
Catherine Asaro is OK. Mercedes Lackey is the first person I thought, but it is already on your list. Diana Wynne Jones? I liked Howl's Moving Castle, which is not really kicking, but a woman in the role of a woman always get what she wants and needs. The film is quite different but very good too.
Long ago I read Jane Yolen, but it was pretty good, IIRC. It does not YA, but also the imagination of adults.
Oh, Stephanie Plum novels, about a bounty hunter unhappy. The quality swings, it can be funny on a page, and very boring the next. This is not sf or fantasy, really. But if you like humor, it might be good. Posted on May 5, 2010.
