Marketplace | Rebecca De Alba Popular name for baby We all want the best for our children, right? So we all take our time in thinking of what name we should give our children. For the past ten years, giving our children a name is as complicated as what we should use the names. What we need to use our initials, or use the name of a parent. At some point most of us are forced to use simple or traditional names, just for the child would not hurt to write them. Religious people tend to use names that are derived from the Bible, which is actually correct, since most of the names of the Bible are really good and simple. But some names in the Bible are very difficult to pronounce and spell.
I remember a friend who told me a story about herself when she was in kindergarten, she has three names outside of his family name is as difficult to spell. She cried when her teacher asked the class to write their names on the first line of their paper, when her teacher asked her why she was crying, she said, because his name does not fit into the first row and needs another line to write all their names.
During the last year, according to pediatricians, the name of their patient becomes more difficult and complex each year. One parent gave her son four different names and does not include the name, poor kid!
Most parents use popular names for their children. The names most commonly used are: Jacob, Michael, Abigail, Joshua, Hannah and Daniel. They are popular because they are all from the Bible. Other popular names are Ethan (just like Ethan Hawke), Benjamin, Caleb, and Zachary. Also the name Elijah has become popular since Elijah Woods became popular.
Although these names are still popular until now, modern names, and weird names dominated the list. Most parents I know have a child with these names Emily, Olivia, Alexis, Emma, and Ashley. Some parents combine with the name, Sarah Grace, or Rebecca.
I know someone who named his son Kristoffer Zepphyr. Sounds weird right? Zepphyr is a character in one anime father likes to watch. So from the Bible to modern names, there are also cross country or across the national trend in naming children. Some Americans name their babies Spanish or Chinese sounding names. Some popular names across the country Lian, who is of Chinese origin which means a lotus flower. Another is Carlos who is of Spanish origin which means free man or Alegria for a girl which means happiness.
Also the names of places or country can be given that the name of a child, like Paris, London, China, Boston and whatever place that comes to mind. Greek gods / goddesses name is also on top of the list: Athena, Xena, Eros, Olympia, and Venus.
Baby names have evolved from simple, biblical, modern, weird. Baby Jessica Alba was named Honor Marie. Many people have raised eyebrows about the name, but for me it's different. Sooner or later others will follow and the name of their baby Honor. I guess other popular names are celebrities and children. I like Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck Name daughter Violet. Shiloh, Zahara, Maddox, Pax, Knox and Vivienne Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. And do not forget Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise girl.
So no matter what we call our babies, all that matters is that we give an idea, and we give them all our hearts. More importantly, we instill in mind that it is important to keep a proper name. Posted on May 2, 2010.
