Marketplace | Peggie Castle A need to develop Britain a new tradition of Repertory Theatre? In Britain, the movement has been a repertory theater movement that began in the early twentieth century, has been continued and developed between the two world wars, and became after 1950 the dominant form of organization Theatre outside London. The first troops of the directory was created and presented as a protest against the dominance of London theaters in the region, with a desire to balance commercial success of the 'West End'. My argument in this essay is that it is time for the renewal of this protest in the face of modern domination of the British theater by "the West End.
By the second half of the reign of Queen Victoria, most people earn more money and worked fewer hours than ever before. This means that for the first time, ordinary workers had enough free time to enjoy hobbies. In the mid-1800s, most large cities had several theaters, offering a range of "song and dance shows that the whole family. In the 1860s, the theater has become such a success that not only were they decorated to make them more comfortable with padded seats and good carpets, but mornings were presented and the style of representation of the theater has been replaced by a new realism, a pioneer on the continent by writers like Ibsen. This meant the box sets have been placed on the stage to create an actual room or rooms and all would be decorated with all the household items for this type of room, the game looks exactly like a real life room . In the early nineteenth century, the theaters were open long hours, often until midnight showing tragedies, comedies, mimes and other forms of entertainment that appealed to a mass audience. Theaters are not always the safest places to visit. However, by the end of the theaters have been more attractive century, remained open for much shorter periods of time and drama programs again consisted solely of a single room. Banks and Marson (1998, p.45) argue that:
The court of Queen Victoria and so-called Victorian morality and attitudes affected the theater. The Queen has invited the actors and companies to give command performances "at Windsor Castle;
Thus, the theater has been open and acceptable to all social classes, not just the lower classes of the first part of the century.
After the end of the Victorian period, things began to change significantly. Annie Horniman was "one of the most important forces in shaping the twentieth-century theater in England" (Flannery, 1970, p.34), the financing of many attractions and critically acclaimed theatrical and launch businesses the careers of many famous people in the world of drama. Annie has been a leading proponent of realism in the theater in the United Kingdom, having watched with interest some of Ibsen's plays. She also realized number of repertory theaters in Germany and wished to introduce into England the cultural value they brought. In his time Annie Horniman bought and renovated or financed several theaters was going to get international recognition and development the modern movement repertoire and enrich the cultural British drama, for which she received an honorary MA. More importantly, Horniman collaborated with Yeats on the creation of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin as the first British repertory theater in 1903. In 1907, then bought the Gaiety Theatre in Manchester and redeveloped as a regional repertory theater. Harold Brighouse was another supporter of gay Manchester and a prolific playwright of more than seventy pieces. Brighouse dominant style of writing was realism, and Annie Horniman, was one of the first to introduce British and project this new style of theater in British society.
