Marketplace | Maria Aitken "The 39 Steps" - a good grip on Hitchcock???? Maria Aitken is an interesting actress who has never really done enough. Curiously, it is a film more interesting. His "take" on "The 39 Steps" (which is more than Hitchcock Buchan) uses the technique of stuffing. On first seeing the play at the Tricycle Theatre I wondered about this. But after seeing last nite I think I understand.
It's like the game is all wrapped around a caricature scene in "North by Northwest" where the U.S. delegate to the UN, talking with Cary Grant finds himself with a knife in the back.
The whole scene is pure Technicolor. Dynel blond wigs. Clothes very strong. And take it. Movements. Staccato. Exaggerated. Only "Hitch" could have imagined him.
And that's what Aitken envelope around the entire room. This kind of caricature and farce.
Very, very clever. In many respects. The 39 Steps is a book of first order, written when Hitchcock was still listening to his mother barking. Read the book and aspire to a better, but bygone era.
A good book has nothing to do with the actors or producers who are just parasites on the backs of the authors. You are wrong about Buchan, whiskey and soda yes, nothing wrong with that, Loner No, not a malcontent, very 1920's Scottish! Also very distinguished war record. Report Abuse "The 39 Steps" is one of my favorite movies, but how is your real question? You're furious about a theater production based on the story is all I manage to understand. It is not really useful to walk on, then wait for others to make sense of things. Posted on April 16, 2010.
