Marketplace | Kristanna Loken Movie Review: Bloodrayne Another video game adaptation of the notorious director Uwe Boll has in the past with less than stellar films House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark. One might think that a script by acclaimed screenwriter Guinevere (American Psycho) Turner would mean good things, but even his genius can not overcome the pitfalls of a source of video game hardware and outdated B-movie, aesthetic a budget.
BloodRayne follows Rayne (Kristanna Loken), a Dhampir or hybrid half-human half-vampire who, after breaking free of his chains at a carnival freak show is on a quest to find her father (Ben Kingsley) Kagan . She is a person haunted by memories of the past who aspires to the closure of confrontation that will his father. During this trip will remove all Rayne other vampires who get in his way. Finally, his reign of terror arose the attention of Vladimir (Michael Madsen) and her vampire hunters (Michelle Rodriguez and Matthew Davis) who decide to join her in her journey after they realize it is not a threat to them. But as a team they aim to rid the world of evil once and for all Kagan.
This is generally what the movie is about but there are also many sub plots involving betrayal, fate, prophesy, son of conspiracy and various others who weave in and out of the success stories and others not so.
Although I have not read the original script Turner's obvious that this film is nothing more than entertainment exorcise Boll who wants nothing more than allow audiences to move from one action sequence to another. I must admit that, unlike his two previous films BloodRayne has a higher melting lead Loken that holds even the most mundane elements in the film. Another strong indication that Boll has become a best director is the production design and scope of the film itself is amplified by ten of his previous films. BloodRayne can not be Resident Evil, but this is not a House of the Dead either.
