The subject is sensitive for a time that nobody enjoyed living. Skogland does a solid job directing the film and it becomes tight in its final act. However, the Irish accents are thick throughout the film it is very difficult to catch everything in the dialogue. The action starts in the second half of the film, but the first half is so crucial in establishing both character development and dialogue that speaks volumes of history. Bulk or even fictionalized adaptation, Skogland seems to have delivered an effective story. However, McGartland has protested and criticized the film, he even tried to block the film's release, but a settlement was made. He concluded that Fifty Dead Men Walking is not an exact account of my story, while the film's producers said it is inspired by the contents and that McGartland agreed not to use a fictitious name for the main character in the film. This controversy added to the film besides he is already dealing with sensitive materials do not help the film find a distributor or a release date. Jim Sturgess and Ben Kingsley are exceptional in the film and share a tender chemistry, which is essential to their operations in the third act of the film.
Fifty Dead Men Walking is a good, but not a great film. The biggest distraction is the film thickness Irish accents, which makes it difficult to understand all the dialogues of the film especially in the first half. It is disheartening that this film has its main source of disturbance in. Posted on April 15, 2010.
