Alongisde Braff, the first eight seasons of the series starred Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn. In the ninth season, that Faison and McGinley will appear as regular cast members, while the remainder with the exception of Reyes, will make appearances. A complete script is written for each episode of Scrubs, but the actors have the opportunity to improvise their lines during the process of shooting. The series has repeatedly featured guest appearances the cast are not generally seen on episodic television, such as Colin Farrell, Heather Graham and Brendan Fraser.
Scrubs was created October 2, 2001 on NBC. During the seventh season, NBC announced it would not renew the show. Shortly after the final seventh season, ABC announced it had bought the rights to the exhibition and on January 6, 2009, the eighth season of Scrubs on ABC at first. The final eighth season aired May 6, 2009. Scrubs has been renewed for a ninth season of 13 episodes, Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke signed for six years. The ninth season, which will premiere December 1, 2009 on ABC, will feature several members of the distribution of news.

Narration
Scrubs focuses on the unique perspective of its main character and narrator Dr. John Michael "JD" Dorian (Zach Braff). Most episodes feature multiple themes related stories by voice-directed by Braff. According to Lawrence, "What we decided was rather than what is a monotonous story, whether it will be the voice of Zach, we'll do everything through JD's eyes. It opened a visual medium that those of us that comedy writers are not accustomed. "In each episode of JD has many dreams and many comic situation comedy" style lines "which are often the result of improvisation. At the end of most episodes, JD summarizes the theme of the story in a series of shots that show how it has affected each character.
Nearly every episode title begins with the first person singular possessive determiner, ie "My ...". Bill Lawrence says this is because each episode is Dr. John Dorian wrote in his diary (on the commentary says the first season episode "My Hero"). There are notable exceptions in the episodes entitled "His" History, "his story II", "She" Story "Her Story II", "His Story III", "His Story IV", "their history" and "their history II. Except for a brief period of narration from JD at the beginning and the end, these episodes contain mostly internal narrative of another person in addition to JD The transfer of the narrative usually occurs at a moment of physical contact between two characters.
