Try to In His Own Write by John Lennon. It can give you an overview of his thoughts and beliefs.
Another good John Lennon: All I want is the truth by Elizabeth Partridge. The author relies heavily on the writings of John Lennon and the wealth of interviews he gave during his life. It shows an honest portrait of an individual without flinching troubled, angry, and very creative has been seduced by rock 'n' roll and often used as a means of expressing his unhappiness and confusion.
