Ivanka Trump

Ivanka TrumpBusiness Success - Lessons from Ivanka Trump

Let me start by saying that I was very impressed by Ivanka Trump, daughter of Donald Trump. She talked to Dan Kennedy / Bill Glazer Superconference and it was fascinating hearing take on business. Here are some nuggets I came away with:

1. You really want it. Ivanka is a woman driven. In fact, I would even say that it succeeds, despite his father and wealth. She works three times harder than anyone else to prove it is really the best person for the job. And she succeeded.

Now one could say it was easy for her. It has links, a name, money. However, this is exactly why it is difficult for her. People assume its success is due to his family and not his ability.

She could have thrown in the towel, turned into another Paris. Instead, she decided to work three times harder to prove to the world that it is just as capable as his father to succeed in business.

My point here is that everyone has obstacles. Even if you can not see them, we all have problems and blocks and obstacles. And we can choose to sell to them or to succeed despite them.

And we all feel the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Ivanka really believes his father's fire if it screws up. (In fact, he publicly stated that, in an interview that he had set fire to his children if they messed up.) Can you imagine the embarrassment and public humiliation if this really happened? Of course, we can all look Ivanka and think "Oh, it's so easy." But if she finds herself in the middle of a colossal failure, the world knows about it and talk about it. This is not the case with someone less well known.

This is very common in business (and in life in general) - people assume someone else's business is a piece of cake when they have X, Y and Z to combat. While it is true perhaps that person has no X, Y, Z, they have A, B, C, which are equally difficult in their own way. So the best thing to do is rather than wasting energy on comparisons, focusing on what you have done much better.

2. What is happening with the economy is one way to make companies stronger. Well, she is 28, which means she was a child during the last recession high. However, she learns of his father, who not only lived through this recession, but close to bankruptcy. How his father cope? He got up every day and did something about it. He did not let the fact that he had millions of dollars with no way to repay the stop. He got up every day and did something about it.

What are you doing now? If you're sitting there waiting for the economy "better" so you can start earning money? Or will you start doing something now to make money?

Companies are still making money now. People are still buying products and services. You can earn money, you just need to be smart about it.

3. Find what you like and do. Ivanka was offered a prestigious job at another company after graduation, but I wanted to work in the family business. His father questioned this decision, which has long made her angry. However, he just wanted to make sure it was something she loved, and not only find a job in the family business, because she thought was expected of her.

What I liked this story has been told that both Donald and Ivanka. Ivanka knew she loved construction and buildings, so she designed her career around doing what she loved. His father knew the importance of doing what you love is, and wanted to ensure Ivanka was on his trail. No its not in the family business, but she was really doing something she loved.

Do you know what you like? Or do you what is "expected".
