Marketplace | Hayden Panettiere "Panettiere Heroes Star Campaigns to save the whales Heroes actress Hayden Panattiere spends his free time to the campaign Save the Whales Again! program. She recently visited Washington, DC and spoke to a rally in Dupont Circle on their stand on the prohibition of commercial whaling. Panettiere, an official spokesman of the project remains active in the battle for fair and humane treatment of whales.
The protest was mainly against Japan, Norway and Iceland, where the slaughter of whales in sight. According Panattiere, animals are not only cruelly slaughtered, the meat is contaminated by huge quantities of mercury.
Panattiere also attended a press conference with the member Nick Rahall, Chris Shays and Senator John Kerry, calling the Bush Admin to take part in the International Whaling Commission. They urged the government to establish economic and diplomatic practices cons of the countries mentioned above.
Panattiere has also taught at Georgetown University and has encouraged young people to get involved. "Whales face increasing threats from climate change, ship strikes, entanglement in nets, and chemical and noise pollution, yet Japan, Norway and Iceland continue to kill them in greater numbers, she said. "I am here to talk with officials who actually make and carry out our policies, as well as young colleagues who will vote in the upcoming elections. Polls show that 59% of Americans would be more willing to vote for a candidate who takes a firm stance on hunting, I want our voice be heard!
Panattiere is known to be active when it comes to maritime issues. Last October 2007, she participated in a ceremonial paddle-out to honor the spirits of aquatic animals have been brutally killed.
