Patrick Rafter was presented by his father who has read the words of the great Aussie John Newcombe and Tony Roche. The family is very important to Rafter and thanked his parents and brothers and sisters for their support and sacrifices during his career. While the first victory of Pat Rafter on the ATP Tour took place on the grass courts of Newport Casino, site of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, his greatest moments as a tennis player has come before large fires in the city. Rafter won back-to-back U.S. Open in 1997 and 1998 and was ranked number one in the world in 1999. Pat followed in the tradition of many great Aussie service and volley style of tennis and how he behaved like a champion. Rafter has been the recipient of the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award in 1998 when he won his first U.S. Open, Pat immediately donated his check to win the Australian Starlight Foundation which helps sick children. Now married with two children, Pat continues to support the children on and off the field in Australia, while surfing a few waves in his spare time along the Queensland coast!
