I loved this movie and have seen several times. I think it's because the president is the leader of the free world and he has other people to take the ball to him.

This is a movie. In the film, Glenn Close is vice president and she will not take more than POTUS. Obviously she is not comfortable with its power to exercise or responsibility. Thus, it is quite upset about the risks of the President (Harrison Ford) needed for control of Air Force One back to the Russian terrorists. In the line of history, this attack was revenge of the backlash to the U.S. intervention in Afghanistan, arming the mujahedeen against the Soviets. Damn, that seems to haunt us a bit. I think one can compare Bush to jump on Air Force One on 9/11/01 and hiding all day, breaking the military base at the military base to protect it against attack. The Secret Service should have pushed Bush out of the classroom as soon as Andy Card told him about the background.
