Gabrielle Reece (born January 6, 1970) is a volleyball player and former professional model.
Reece was born in La Jolla, California, and spent his early life in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. In high school, Reece excelled at basketball and volleyball played on the side. Many colleges started recruiting her due to his ability in sport. She accepted a volleyball scholarship from Florida State University (FSU), where she majored in communications and led the league in kills four times and blocks once. FSU inducted Reece into the Florida State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997. Since graduation, she played tour professional volleyball.
Reece began her modeling career while attending FSU. She appeared on the covers of several magazines including the shape, Women's Sports & Fitness, Outside, ELLE, and life. She also appeared on the cover of Playboy, with an accompanying posed nude, in January 2001. Ironically, during his appearance last year as it on the HBO series Arliss, she chastised her anger agent to make an offer to pose nude for Playboy. As an Elite model, she could command a day rate of $ 10,000. She also appeared as a guest during season 3 of Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
Besides volleyball, she published an autobiography, co-written with Karen Karbo, entitled Big Girl in the Middle. Reece also writes a column for women's sports and fitness magazine. In November 1997, she married surfer Laird Hamilton. They have one child together, daughter Reece Viola Hamilton, who was born in October 2003
