Fred NibloFred Niblo: making his mark in film industry

Fred Niblo (1874-1948), whose real name Frederick Liedtke life, was an actor who has developed remarkable silent films including the epic "Ben-Hur.

Fred Niblo was born January 6, 1874 in York, Nebraska. Her mother was French and his father served as captain during the Civil War and was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Fred film career began with a passion for film editing that led him to Broadway where he met and married Josephine Cohan in 1901. Josephine was a talented actress and Broadway is the elder sister of the legendary artist George M. Cohan who is considered the father of American musical comedy.

Josephine died in 1916 and that same year, Fred began his career as an actor using the stage name of Fred Niblo. Their son, Fred Niblo Jr. (1903-1972), later became a successful Hollywood screenwriter.

Fred was sixty-four when he died of pneumonia November 11, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His body is buried in Forrest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.

Years of career

For twenty years, Fred Niblo traveled the world participating in vaudeville and acting in several small theater productions. In 1916, he decided to try his luck in the field of management and its first silent film, "become rich fast Wallingford," was filmed in Australia. The film was released on January 31 this year.

His second effort was a silent film of 40 minutes entitled "Agent 666. 'In this film, Niblo appeared with two of the best talents of the time, Enid Bennett (who would become his second wife) and his brother, George Bryant. The film is a comedy and his original script is stored at the National Screen and Sound Archive in Canberra, Australia.

As Hollywood continues its journey, Fred has worked on several major films such as "The Mask of Zorro" (1920) and "The Three Musketeers" (1921) both with Douglas Fairbanks. He also realized that many feel the greatest silent film epic of all time, "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ" in 1925. The film, which had a running time of one hundred forty-three minutes and was distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, has been hailed as one of the most expensive films of its time. The film is inspired by the fascinating life of Ben-Hur and his friend deceived Roman centurion Messala. Ben-Hur has been interpreted by Ramon Novarro Francis X. with Bushman as Messala.

Fred Niblo also had the chance to team with more than two giants of the film industry, John Gilbert and Renee adored in the 1930s "classics" of redemption.

As one of the most notable directors in the film industry, Fred founded the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and directed his last film 'Diamond Cut Diamond, 1932. With at least sixty films to his credit, he retired the next year.

Fred Niblo had made his mark on the film industry. His many important contributions secured her place in Hollywood history.
