It was reported that Crosby grew disenchanted with his role because of the "Uhura-like status of role: Tasha was always present, but his character was never expanded on.

Crosby said that his role as Tasha was never developed and she was just there.
Ironically, some of the best episodes of Crosby was after his character was killed. Yesterday's Enterprise is one of them.
It was a pretty girl and all, but his game was not the Great, sorry, but true.
And I think in time people were really getting sick of the whole war thing, it was getting old.
