The Sox are close-season as they are a franchise of smaller markets that would welcome a season of 82-80. Keep in mind that this is a team that won the World Series two years ago. Keep in mind that this is a team that plays in the third largest market in America. Keep in mind this team plays games of a season of tens on WGN Superstation, increasing its exposure to the rest of America. Keep in mind that this is a team that had pretty good attendance the last two years, even competing with their rivals the most popular of the Cross City. Keep in mind this team has spent dollars before, locking Konerko, Buherle, Dye, & Vazquez and trade Contreras, Thome and Cabrera. Instead of going out to find a proven outfielder, they have failed miserably trying to plug the bench players like Rob Mackowiak, injuries as players likely Erstad and Podsednik and prospects like Fields, Terrero, and now may Quentin.

And finally, while Chris Carter is a few years, keep in mind that trading away a prospect can come back to haunt them French for years. How do you feel that the Red Sox during the 90s after having exchanged a third base prospect named Jeff Bagwell for Larry Andersen lefty reliever? What would it have been like if Detroit had not traded a young pitcher named John Smoltz for the Braves pitcher Doyle Alexander of aging? If Quentin is proving to be as good as it was supposed to be it will not matter what Carter did when he arrived there. But if Quentin is a bust, it will make things worse if Carter becomes something special in a few years.

I pray that this is for the future - not for the left field this year! The Sox need a solid player in the left, and Quinten is not it.

It's a good trade for the Red Sox, trade a solid A player who is years away from ever producing at the major league for an intelligent, productive player who has had problems breaking ball Major League. The Sox have not got some first-round and most other orgs have developed.

I personally do not like it, look at his numbers in the majors not very impressive and he has injury problems just what we need another LF with injury problems, isn't that a reason why we published pods. I would rather see Owens LF and sign Rowand or Andruw Jones. I think they did the right thing with Phillips, he was a minor leaguer and strong, it will never be a chance for the majors with the Red Sox so im glad he will have the opportunity else where. and Carter had a significant number in the minors, I just wish they were waiting to see what this child could be.

Ouentin was one of the most highly regarded prospects in baseball at a time. I agree the Sox perspective. Carlos could be great and got on his 'Growing Pains' period, and may be ready to become a star.
