Marketplace | Amelle Berrabah Faces Sugababes Who suspected that when the Sugababes first invaded our radios in 1998 they were still around more than 10 years later? Composed of a trio of talented singers who refreshed the soul of pop music from the nineties with their vocal abilities, the Sugababes were a group of girls welcomed by many - but they have changed over the years.
It is not uncommon for a band member leave and be replaced by someone else. However, the Sugababes have undergone this gesture so often over the years as their current line up now has no original members left in the band - an event that had fans rally for former members back together.
Most people, however, seem eager for new faces. As long as girls continue to make good music, they think, it does not matter who is in the group.
The Sugababes have created seven studio albums and a singles collection over the years. They have toured extensively featured immensely popular and appeared in many events where they were very well received. There is something about the group that maintains a massive fan base, even when the meetings are held regularly in the trio seems to constantly change.
Originally in the lineup were members Siobhan Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan. These three talented singers managed to stay together from 1998 until 2001, when Donaghy was replaced by Heidi Range. At this stage of their careers, the girls released one of their most famous single, "Freak Like Me", and officially broke into the big time.
However, it was only several years again before the line up has changed. In 2005, Mutya Buena has left the band and was replaced by Amelle Berrabah. The group has continued to create more records, without ever losing a large part of their popularity before. They continued to break records, including being the first female act to place a number on the single, album and download charts at the same time, with platinum prices being paid to five of their albums in the United Kingdom.
In 2009, however, tensions in the band were at a high level and the last founding member, Keisha Buchanan, left to be replaced by Jade Ewen. The future is uncertain for the group, but with a new album and a collection of promising talent, it seems that fans will still buy CDs and downloads and streaming music for many years to come.
