Fox Plaza in Los Angeles, portrayed in the film as "Nakatomi Plaza" John McClane, a detective in New York City Police Department, arrived in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve, trying to meet and reconcile with his estranged wife Holly, who is attending a Christmas party thrown by his employer, fiction based in Japan, the Nakatomi Corporation at its headquarters, U.S. branches, the high rise Nakatomi Plaza, 30th floor. While McClane is cooler for the flight, they see for the first time in several months and have an argument about his use of her maiden name, Gennero, but Holly is soon called to make a speech. As the party continues, a group of 12 terrorists apparently actually thieves, led by Hans Gruber seize the building and engage in the fire of panic because they raid the party goers hostage. McClane has escaped from the floor (without shoes) and ran up the stairs to check the upper floors of the building. It looks like Gruber and three henchmen question Joseph Takagi, head of Holly. Takagi Gruber explains that his intention is to steal 640 million dollars in bearer bonds kept in the vault of the building and requests for Takagi access code to the computer system of the company is the first step in order to elucidate the vault.
