Plot
In 1988, Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), a brilliant teenager, has been seeing a psychiatrist, as he seems to be going through puberty, particularly painful. His mother became worried for him after his sister suggests dinner that he has not taken his medication. Later that night (Oct. 2) Donnie is awakened by a voice and down as if sleepwalking when he meets Frank (James Duval), a man in a bunny suit threatening. Frank said that in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds, the end of the world. While it is outside, a jet engine plant per room Donnie.

Grandma Death whispers something in his ear that makes Donnie jump. It is learned later that she whispered, "all living beings on earth dies alone."
In his English classes Donnie meets a new student, Gretchen Ross (Jena Malone). Meanwhile, Frank continues to appear to Donnie and tell him he can not do anything and will not be caught. Frank also said Donnie about time travel, in addition to her confusion. Donnie, apparently at the instigation of Frank, committed several acts of violence against property, flooding the school and burned the house of Jim Cunningham, an inspirational speaker. Cunningham methods have been much admired by Kitty Farmer, a teacher at Donnie's school.
Gretchen and Donnie closer. It is one of the few people he opens his visions of time travel. Mr. Thurman drugs increases and Donnie began hypnotherapy with him. Frank continues to appear to Donnie.
With the inspirational speaker, Jim Cunningham, accused of leading a "kiddie porn dungeon" Kitty Farmer Donnie mother asked to accompany the school dance team to LA for an appearance on the program Star Search. Donnie sister Elizabeth ( Maggie Gyllenhaal) and Donnie decided to organize a Halloween party while their mother, Rose, and her younger sister are there. The night of the party, October 30, Gretchen comes home to Donnie security because her mother suddenly disappeared.
At midnight, Donnie realizes that the 28 days have elapsed, and only 6:00 remaining until the end of the world. Convinced that grandma death is somehow connected to Frank, Gretchen and Donnie persuades two friends to leave the party and go with him to his house. There they were attacked by thugs from high school (Alex Greenwald and Seth Rogen). Gretchen is stunned and thrown into the street. A car approaches frightening villain, but veers off to avoid the death Grandmother who is standing on the road and goes directly over Gretchen. Stop the car, Frank pulls out and starts shouting to Donnie, who raises stolen gun and shoots his father Frank through his right eye (injury have already seen that the "rabbit threatening" Frank took off his mask).
Grandmother tells of the death cut Donnie (director) need to hurry as a storm forms and it has much to do. Donnie can not Gretchen continued and ended with the execution of his lifeless body at his home. There, he kisses the forehead of his sleeping sister, takes a few keys and speed away in the family car with Gretchen. We see a strange reversal, black cloud forming on the home of Donnie. Next Donnie watches some roads in the hills overlooking the city as a form of tornado.
