Bryan Adams was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina and grew up on country music from classic artists like Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Merle Haggard, although in his adolescence, his discovery of punk rock and began to play guitar. This explains Adams's penchant for country music that has burst into the public. Adams formed his first group of the Patty Duke Syndrome and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina with the group when he was 19, but the young musician abandoned plans to expand his musical horizons.
In 1994, Adams left the PDS and formed Whiskeytown with guitarist Phil Wandscher and violinist Caitlin Cary. The bassist Steve Grothman and drummer Eric "Skillet" Gilmore completing the lineup and Whiskeytown (they got their name from a local slang word for getting drunk) released their first album, Faithless Street on the local Mood Food label . The album was acclaimed by critics and fans have said it was just what the alt-country genre needed. When Whiskeytown signed with major imprint Outpost Records, Geffen released Stranger's Almanac in 1997, Adams and Wandscher were the only members of the band left. For the next two years, the variety of programming that Wandscher and Cary left back among other changes, and the band's third album, pneumonia, has been abandoned due to label issues. Whiskeytown soon dissolved, leaving Adams to start a solo career with a series of solo acoustic tour.
After launching a solo career, Adams stepped into the studio in Nashville with Gillian Welch and authors David Rawlings for the work of his debut album under his own name. The result is output through pioneering Heartbreaker Bloodshot Records label in 2000 and did well in sales, received rave reviews and has been endorsed by none other than Elton John! After signing with Universal imprint Lost Highway Records Americana again, the label reissued Whiskeytown pneumonia in early 2001 and later that year issued sophomore solo effort from Adam, Gold. The album turned into pop and rock that recalls the 1970s and its opening track, "New York, New York," was a popular hymn of the radio, following the attacks of September 11 terrorist attacks .
